Fox has cancelled their once-white-hot hit, The OC.
This comes as no surprise to anyone paying attention. The network only ordered 16 episodes for the show's fourth season, and it was getting killed in the ratings by Grey's Anatomy and CSI, despite a critical renaissance. Fox, the network itself, even launched its own "Save The OC" campaign (to save the show from... themselves?). But nothing helped. The Series Finale will be shown on February 22.
For those not paying attention (like me), you are probably asking, "The OC is still on TV?"
Once upon a time, I loved The OC. It was my first post-college must-see show back in '03, and the first half of the second season featured some of my favorite episodes (which I watched religiously with my buddy Keith before heading out to the also-departed Pearls). But I watched very little of the show's third year, and I haven't watched any of this acclaimed final season (in fact, I know no one who has, except for Molly -- and if you're reading this news here first, I'm sorry, girl!). Hell, I don't even know who "Taylor Townsend" is.
I kinda have, like, regret. I feel guilty that I, like most viewers, abandoned Ryan, Summer, and the gang long ago. Perhaps, if I'd watched, I could've saved you.
The show that unleashed Seth Cohen, Chrismukkah, and -- sadly -- Mischa Barton upon the world is dead. I'll miss you most of all, Julie Cooper.

I remember in the beginning I was obsessed with this show. But I totally ignored last season and could care less about this season. So sad, cause Ryan was cute!

I found out this terrible news yesterday and I am deeply distraught. I admit last season sucked but this year has had a number of quality episodes. Taylor Townsend makes the show! Of course I would most always choose Grey's over the OC but in the age of Tivo I was able to enjoy both. Until Feb 22nd, goddamit!
