Summer Breeze
Long time, no text.
No excuse, really, for the radio silence. I guess you could say that my moment of supposed "Clarity" back in April quickly became muddled into shades of gray and I didn't feel much like reflecting or writing. But that was a good thing.
Now here I am. Summer's over. I've been back in Burlington for a year. And I'm on the edge of another new school year at UVM. I say that like it's a bad thing. I actually had a fucking awesome summer and I'm psyched about the coming fall. Shades of gray might be tres confusing, but, for most of the summer, that confusion turned into more freedom and lots of fun. And now I find myself finding a little bit of focus -- not quite clarity, but something just as good.
Since this is a journal, I should briefly chronicle a few summer highlights in a bulleted list. And I should do this now.
** Hanging out with attractive reality TV stars.
** "I left the plane." Friends Finale with my best friend.
** Reconnecting with long-lost Meghan, and her odd purse clasp.
** Good music: Mraz's "Summer Breeze," "Orange Sky," Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, "Maps," "Take Me Out," Scissor Sisters.
** FlipFest '04: Best FlipFest Ever, with or without t-shirts.
** Gayest Week Ever: Seeing Madonna live in NYC. Express yourself...
** New Six Feet Under and Dead Like Me (how morbid!)
** Tuesday nights at Auggie's and Pearl's. Where's the Crepe Man?
** Good movies! Saved, Shrek 2, & Spider-Man 2. Anchorman x 5 (and counting...). Also: Quizno's Subs!
** VT Pride was actually fun.
** Baustin Pub Crawl, Part Deux. "I'm so glad we didn't go to the Hong Kong."
** Five weeks without Quimby at work. And good times at work in general.
** Making new friends in Burlington. And frightening them with my drunken "forcefulness."
** Making some peace with love, and being happier than I've been in a while.
It was a summer of fun. I went out a lot. Went to the movies. Got to see my far-away friends a few times. Spent too much money. Had a couple teeth pulled. And I live to tell the tale.
First Year Students moved in today, so my summer is now, officially, over. It came to a close so quickly that I never got any closure, and I'm starting to feel sad. I love my job and all that, but I really, really loved this summer and it will be hard to say good-bye to it. It was the type of summer that a $4 Hurricane (or 2 -- or 4) or a repeat viewing of Anchorman could make everything better. Work was good. Life was good. And everything was balanced perfectly, for the first time in a long time.
The song of the summer?
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love
You stay classy, Easyjournal reader.
